The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will impose travel restrictions for commercial vehicles on Thursday due to expected winter weather.
Starting at 5 p.m. today, Tier 1 travel restrictions will apply to these roadways:
- Interstate 81, north of I-380
- Interstate 84, entire stretch
Under Tier 1 restrictions, the following vehicle types are prohibited:
- Tractors without trailers
- Tractors towing empty or lightly loaded enclosed, open, or tank trailers
- Tractors towing empty or lightly loaded tandem trailers
- Empty or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks/box trucks classified as commercial motor vehicles (CMVs)
- Passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers
- Recreational vehicles (RVs) and motorhomes
- School buses, commercial buses, and motor coaches
- Motorcycles
“On roadways where vehicles are not restricted, commercial vehicle drivers in particular are encouraged to exercise caution in high winds. Drivers should ensure their loads are secure, reduce speeds, increase following distance, and use flashers if necessary,” said PennDOT.
