The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that Interstate 83 will be closed between Exit 44B and Exit 45 starting at 11 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, to allow for the replacement of the 29th Street bridge over the highway. The interstate is scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. on Sunday, August 25.

PennDOT provided the following detour routes:

  • For southbound traffic: Take Exit 45 (Paxton Street/Bass Pro Drive) to Paxton Street, head west on Paxton Street to 17th Street, and then use the ramp to rejoin southbound I-83.
  • For northbound traffic: Exit at 19th Street, proceed south on 19th Street to Paxton Street, continue east on Paxton Street to Eisenhower Boulevard, and then take the ramp to rejoin northbound I-83.
