The average cost of diesel nationwide fell by 4.6 cents to $4.015 per gallon, as per the latest data from the Energy Information Administration released on April 15.

Diesel prices last dipped below the $4 mark on April 1, following a decrease of 3.8 cents, bringing the average price down from $4.034 to $3.996.

  • Across the ten regions surveyed by the EIA, diesel prices decreased in nine areas, with New England being the exception where prices increased by six-tenths of a cent. The most significant decline was observed in the Lower Atlantic, where prices dropped by 6.3 cents.
  • On average, a gallon of diesel is now 10.1 cents cheaper compared to the same period in 2023.
  • In the Lower Atlantic, Midwest, and Rocky Mountain regions, the average diesel price fell below $4 per gallon after respective declines.
