This week, officials in Georgia made an important announcement in response to the growing issue of inflation. On September 12, Georgia’s Governor, Brian P. Kemp, took action by issuing an Executive Order that temporarily suspends the state’s excise tax on motor and locomotive fuel.

Governor Kemp’s office has explained that this order will lead to a significant reduction in fuel costs for Georgia residents. Specifically, it will result in a savings of 35 cents per gallon for diesel fuel and 31.2 cents for every gallon of gasoline.

This suspension of fuel taxes came into effect on Wednesday, September 13, starting at 12:00 a.m., and it will remain in place until 11:59 p.m. on October 12, 2023. Governor Kemp cited the economic hardships faced by Georgia residents due to rising inflation as the primary reason for issuing this Executive Order. It is a measure aimed at providing some financial relief during this challenging economic period.

“From runaway federal spending to policies that hamstring domestic energy production, all Bidenomics has done is take more money out of the pockets of the middle class,” said Kemp. “While high prices continue to hit family budgets, hardworking Georgians deserve real relief and that’s why I signed an executive order today to deliver it directly to them at the pump. Working with partners in the General Assembly, we’ll continue to help Georgians weather the economic headwinds caused by this president, his administration, and their allies in Congress.”
