A recent research study revealed that Arizona ranks highest in the United States when it comes to having the most aggressive drivers. To be precise, Arizona achieved a flawless score according to the approach employed by Forbes Advisor. This approach involved surveying 10,000 licensed drivers to better understand the escalating issue of road rage.
After evaluating nine critical factors, Forbes Advisor discovered several noteworthy findings, including:
- Arizona tops the list of states with the worst road rage
- Delaware is home to the most polite drivers in the nation
- Five of the top 10 states with the most confrontational drivers are in the South, including West Virginia, Virginia, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Texas
- Four of the top 10 states with the most polite drivers are in the Pacific and West, including Idaho, Wyoming, Washington, and New Mexico
- Drivers reported experiencing road rage most frequently on city streets (29.18%), on freeways or highways (26.59%), and in parking lots (14.9%)

Forbes Advisor also uncovered the reasons behind the heightened stress experienced by individuals while on the road. The primary factor was attributed to heavy traffic, accounting for 39.35% of the respondents’ experiences. Following closely were pre-existing stress levels (38.06%), time constraints due to being behind schedule (33.89%), pre-existing anger (32.49%), and a sense of fatigue (26.86%).
