The Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP) is currently engaged in an extensive operation to enforce traffic regulations from the air. This operation will continue throughout the weekend.

The Air Support Unit of WSP will be overseeing enforcement activities from the sky on specific roads in anticipation of the upcoming Labor Day holiday, subject to suitable weather conditions:

Thursday, August 31

  • I-39 – Portage County

Friday, September 1

  • US 12 – Sauk County

Saturday, September 2

  • I-41 – Washington County

Sunday, September 3

  • I-94 – Eau Claire County

The Air Support Unit of the Wisconsin State Patrol identifies drivers who are speeding or behaving recklessly through aerial surveillance. By employing timing equipment, pilots are able to measure the speed of vehicles that are believed to be exceeding limits. They can then communicate with patrol cars on the ground, providing information to carry out traffic stops on these identified vehicles.
