The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) is collaborating with law enforcement agencies across the United States for a five-day campaign to combat human trafficking.
This initiative, called the Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (HTAI), is the CVSA’s first major effort in 2025. It will take place in the U.S. from January 13 to January 17. The goal of HTAI is to inform commercial vehicle drivers, transportation companies, law enforcement personnel, and the public about human trafficking, how to recognize the warning signs, and the steps to take if trafficking is suspected.
Throughout the five-day campaign, law enforcement, motor carriers, and transportation safety organizations will engage in special enforcement and educational activities aimed at increasing awareness of human trafficking.
Examples of HTAI activities may include:
- Providing drivers with human trafficking information during vehicle inspections while they wait.
- Observing and speaking with truck passengers to identify potential signs of trafficking.
- Distributing educational materials such as flyers and wallet cards and interacting with the public at locations like truck stops, city halls, train and bus stations, ports of entry, DMV offices, and weigh stations.
The HTAI campaign will also extend to Canada from February 17 to February 21, 2025, and to Mexico from March 17 to March 21, 2025.
