Safety is a significant concern for many truck drivers when stopping at truck stops. A recent survey revealed that 80% of truckers are willing to pay more for services at truck stops where they feel secure.
The survey by FinditParts highlighted that younger truck drivers generally feel less safe at truck stops compared to older drivers. Despite this, most truckers reported feeling safe at these locations. Here’s a breakdown of the survey results by generation:
- Gen Z (born 1997–2012): 59% feel safe
- Millennials (born 1981–1996): 78% feel safe
- Gen X (born 1965–1980): 86% feel safe
- Boomers (born 1946–1964): 84% feel safe
The willingness to pay more for safety and cleanliness was also a key finding. Eight out of 10 respondents stated they would pay at least 5% more for services at safer truck stops, and 40% were willing to pay up to 25% more.
The survey also highlighted safety concerns among women drivers. Women are twice as likely as men to feel unsafe sleeping at a truck stop. Over 25% of women said they would feel “somewhat unsafe” staying overnight, and another 24% reported feeling “very unsafe.” Additionally, women are 12% more likely than men to opt for a hotel over a potentially unsafe truck stop.
