The New York State Thruway has introduced new rules that will prevent certain drivers from accessing the thruway. According to a spokesperson for the thruway, the regulation targets drivers who have unpaid tolls, prohibiting them from using the road. Enforcement will rely on tracking license plates, as some drivers use fake plates to dodge toll payments.

“If you don’t feel you can pay, just don’t drive on it,” said truck driver Mark Nemerow, who has been trucking for 50 years.

The NYS Thruway Authority is owed $40 million in unpaid toll fees from drivers who haven’t paid. Tolls make up 90% of the Authority’s revenue.
