A jury decided to drop some charges against a pickup truck driver involved in a crash that left a semi-truck hanging off a Louisville bridge earlier this year.
The pickup driver, Trevor Branham, 33, had been facing four felony charges of wanton endangerment and one charge of driving with a suspended license.
Last week, a grand jury in Jefferson County determined there wasn’t enough evidence to prove Branham had engaged in actions that posed a substantial danger or risk of serious injury, according to WDRB. As a result, the wanton endangerment charges were dismissed, and the suspended license charge was transferred to a district court.
The charges stemmed from a serious accident on March 1, 2024, on the Clark Memorial Bridge over the Ohio River, which connects Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky. The crash began when an electric vehicle broke down on the bridge.
Witnesses reported that Branham was driving a Chevrolet C1500 at high speed, weaving through traffic, when he hit the stalled EV.
The Chevrolet then veered into the northbound lanes, struck another car, and collided with a Sysco semi-truck driven by Sydney Thomas, 26. The impact caused the truck to hit a support beam and crash through the bridge’s guardrail.
Thomas was trapped in the truck cab, which dangled 100 feet over the Ohio River for about 45 minutes before she was rescued by the Louisville Fire Department.
Thomas was hospitalized after the incident.
