The average price of diesel fuel across the country dropped by 5.3 cents per gallon, falling below $3.90 for the first time in 13 weeks, as per the latest data from the Energy Information Administration released on May 6th.

- Diesel now stands at $3.894 per gallon, marking the first time it’s been below $3.90 since February 5th, when it was $3.899. This also represents the lowest price since January 29th, when it was $3.867.
- Compared to the same period last year, diesel is now 2.8 cents cheaper per gallon.
- Across all 10 regions surveyed by the EIA, the average price of diesel decreased. The drop varied from 7.3 cents in the Lower Atlantic region to just two-tenths of a cent in the Rocky Mountain area.
- Meanwhile, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline also saw a decline, dropping by 1 cent to $3.643. However, this is still 11 cents higher than the price at this time last year.
