The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is cautioning speedy truck drivers to ease off the gas pedal and follow the state’s speed limits for commercial motor vehicles (CMVs).
In a recent encounter, CHP – Redding came across a truck transporting a large load that was speeding at 70 mph, which exceeds the CMV speed limit of 55 mph. Troopers used this incident as an opportunity to remind truck drivers to reduce their speed and adhere to the regulations.
“For those of you who asked if we enforce big rigs speeding, the answer is yes. Although we can’t catch them all as there is a lot more of them as there is us, we do our best to enforce the 55 MPH max speed limit for big rigs and combination vehicles. This is just one stop of several on the day,” CHP said.
The California Vehicle Code specifies that any motor truck or truck tractor with three or more axles, or any motor truck or truck tractor towing another vehicle, is prohibited from exceeding speeds of 55 mph on highways.
