The Baltimore City Department of Transportation has modified the designated paths for trucks within the city in response to heightened traffic volumes resulting from the severe collapse of the Frances Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday.

Baltimore Official Truck Routes After Bridge Collapse

Authorities anticipate that the collapse of the bridge will lead to increased traffic flow, especially on designated truck routes within the city. To mitigate potential congestion, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation has revised the official truck route map, indicating the roads and highways permissible for truckers to navigate within Baltimore.

Truck drivers traversing Baltimore are urged to frequently consult the updated truck map, as it may undergo revisions on a daily basis.

More Trucker Travel Info From MDTA

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has provided guidance for truckers seeking alternate routes due to the bridge closure:

  • For Harbor Crossing, truckers can use either the I-95 or I-895 tunnels.
  • Vehicles transporting hazardous materials that are prohibited in tunnels should opt for the western section of I-695 around the tunnels. This applies to vehicles carrying bottled propane gas exceeding 10 pounds per container (up to 10 containers), bulk gasoline, explosives, or significant amounts of radioactive materials.
  • Trucks exceeding 13 feet 6 inches in height or 8 feet in width are barred from using the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. The restrictions for the I-95 Ft. McHenry Tunnel are a height limit of 14 feet 6 inches and a width limit of 11 feet.
