The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has issued a warning specifically aimed at commercial vehicle operators in anticipation of an upcoming solar eclipse in April.
On March 22, 2024, the Vermont DMV released a notice concerning the solar eclipse set to occur on April 8. According to officials, the northern part of Vermont will be in the path where the eclipse will be fully visible, leading to a significant surge in traffic before, during, and after the event.
The Vermont DMV strongly advises commercial truck drivers who are planning to travel through or into Vermont during this period to explore alternative routes and delivery schedules to avoid the anticipated congestion.
Additionally, the Vermont DMV will enforce restrictions on over dimension and overweight commercial vehicles on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, effective from Monday, April 8, 2024. During this time, permits won’t be granted for the movement of loads exceeding 108,000 pounds, wider than 12 feet, or longer than 100 feet on state highways.
