The speed limit along a stretch of Interstate 81 in Tennessee is getting raised. After examining recent speed data, crash reports, and the consistency of speed regulations, TDOT has decided to adjust the speed limit on I-81 in Sullivan County.
Starting from Monday, March 4th, the speed limit on I-81 between the Washington County line and the Virginia state border will go up to 70 miles per hour for all vehicles. Presently, this section has a speed limit of 65 miles per hour for cars and 55 miles per hour for trucks.
This decision comes following feedback from the public, law enforcement, and local authorities. TDOT emphasizes that this change aims to enhance road safety for everyone using the highway.
TDOT has announced that its crews will install new signs along this route next week, depending on weather conditions. Motorists are advised to be extremely cautious while driving in this area.
