The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) is organizing the Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (HTAI) on different dates across its three member countries. In the United States, the initiative is scheduled for January 8-12, in Canada, it will take place from February 19-23, and in Mexico, it is set for March 11-15.
CVSA’s annual initiative spans five days and focuses on raising awareness, conducting outreach, and addressing the identification and prevention of human trafficking. The primary goal is to provide education on human trafficking to commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers, law enforcement officers, and the general public. Participants learn about the signs of human trafficking and are equipped with knowledge on what steps to take if they suspect someone is a victim of trafficking.
Throughout the five-day period in each country, CVSA jurisdictions will actively participate in human trafficking awareness and outreach activities. They will document their efforts and projects, submitting the collected data to the alliance. The outcomes of these initiatives will be disclosed in the summer of 2024.
To prepare for the upcoming 2024 Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative, CVSA is providing its members with resources focused on human trafficking awareness. In collaboration with Truckers Against Trafficking, CVSA is facilitating the distribution of wallet cards, posters, and window decals. Those interested in obtaining these outreach materials can complete an online form to receive complimentary items.
If you want to learn about the specific efforts of your jurisdiction in increasing awareness about human trafficking, you can get in touch with the agency or department responsible for overseeing commercial motor vehicle safety in your state, province, or territory.
The Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative is an integral part of CVSA’s broader Human Trafficking Prevention Program. This program aims to combat human trafficking across North America by implementing coordinated enforcement, investigative measures, and educational awareness initiatives within the commercial motor vehicle industry.
