Michigan State Police motor carrier officers are directing their enforcement activities towards Interstate 94 for the remainder of the week as part of a synchronized enforcement operation.
This operation, named “Eyes on 94,” aims to diminish the occurrence of commercial vehicle accidents along the I-94 corridor. The statewide initiative commenced on Monday, Nov. 27, and will conclude on Friday, Dec. 1.
Throughout this endeavor, motor carrier officers will concentrate on violations committed by commercial vehicles that are most likely to contribute to accidents, such as speeding, tailgating, improper passing, distracted driving, and improper lane use, as outlined in a statement from the MSP.
“This enforcement effort is a great example of the commitment by the MSP to reach crash reduction goals while increasing traffic safety,” said Capt. Richard Arnold, commander of the MSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. “We hope to increase awareness by means of high visibility enforcement on the I- 94 corridor, which is prone to weather-related crashes involving interstate commercial vehicle drivers this time of year.”
The “Eyes on 94” initiative is integral to the broader statewide Drive Toward Zero Deaths traffic safety campaign. This campaign aligns with the national strategy on highway safety, aiming to systematically decrease the overall number of traffic-related fatalities across the country.
