Law enforcement agencies in Arizona collaborated on a three-day operation targeting commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) along Interstate 40 in the northern region of the state last month.

This enforcement initiative occurred between Tuesday, October 17, and Thursday, October 19, 2023, and covered various checkpoints and areas along Interstate 40 in northern Arizona, as reported by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS).

Throughout this three-day operation, both the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Enforcement and Compliance Division and AZDPS conducted stops and inspections on a total of 639 commercial motor vehicles (CMVs).

During these inspections, officers identified a cumulative count of 1,779 violations related to either the drivers or their vehicles.

Furthermore, 102 vehicles and 97 drivers were taken out of service as a result of the inspections.

According to the AZDPS, the most prevalent violations uncovered during the operation included:

  1. Inadequate securing of cargo loads.
  2. Brake systems that were not properly adjusted.
  3. Instances of falsifying logbooks.
  4. Operating a commercial motor vehicle without a valid commercial driver’s license.

“Troopers and officers will continue working to educate CMV operators and the general public about the importance of safe operation in and around commercial vehicles,” the agency said.
