The latest data from the Energy Information Administration, as of October 16, indicates that the average cost of diesel fuel across the nation has decreased by 5.4 cents per gallon in the last week, reaching $4.444 per gallon. Diesel prices had been on a consistent upward trend since September 18, but they have now fallen in three out of the last four weeks.
Highlights:
- Diesel prices declined in every region of the country, with the smallest drop of 2 cents in New England and the most significant decrease of 8.3 cents in the West Coast excluding California.
- In comparison to a year ago, diesel is now almost 89.5 cents cheaper per gallon.
- There is a substantial regional price difference, with the Gulf Coast having the lowest average price at $4.114 per gallon, while California has the highest at $6.119 per gallon.
- Gasoline prices also experienced a notable decrease, with a drop of 10.8 cents, bringing the national average to $3.576 per gallon.
