A significant portion of a major road in New York City is set to shut down this upcoming weekend. Specifically, a segment of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (Interstate 278) will cease operations from 2 a.m. on Saturday, and it’s scheduled to resume normal traffic at 4 a.m. on Monday. This temporary closure is essential to facilitate repair work as part of a larger project aimed at enhancing this particular highway.

The New York City Department of Transportation said:

  • Queens-bound BQE will be fully closed from Atlantic Avenue to Sands Street
  • Staten Island-bound BQE will be partially closed with only one lane available; the Vine Street/Old Fulton Street ramp will be closed

An alternative route for trucks has been designated: Truck drivers can take the Linden Boulevard Detour, which involves using the Gowanus Expressway, transitioning to the Prospect Expressway/McDonald Avenue, then moving on to Caton Avenue before reaching Linden Boulevard.
