The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is cautioning motorists to make advance plans due to an expected surge of visitors coming to the state for an upcoming eclipse event over the weekend.
This Saturday, on October 14th, there is a solar eclipse known as an annular eclipse, which will lead to a partial blocking of the sun. The eclipse is set to commence at approximately 9 a.m., and around 10:30 a.m., there will be a roughly four-minute period where the moon will obstruct 90% of sunlight, as reported by KSL.
In anticipation of this celestial event, UDOT is making preparations for an influx of approximately 300,000 eclipse enthusiasts who will be congregating in the southern and central regions of the state.
It’s expected that these eclipse enthusiasts will bring about traffic congestion and delays in areas such as Richfield and Mexican Hat.
UDOT is warning drivers to prepare for delays on the following roadways:
- I-15
- I-70
- US-89
- US-191
UDOT is urging eclipse enthusiasts not to use highway and interstate shoulders for parking.
Furthermore, authorities are cautioning that essential resources like food, water, and fuel in local areas might be in short supply both before and after the eclipse event.
