Diesel costs surged ahead by an additional 8.6 cents per gallon, reaching a national average of $4.475, as reported by the Energy Information Administration on August 28th.
This marks the sixth consecutive week of price hikes, with the primary fuel for the trucking industry now only 64 cents cheaper than its price a year ago.
The cost of diesel saw an uptick in all ten surveyed regions by the EIA. The increase varied from a substantial 17.9 cents per gallon in the West Coast (excluding California) to a modest 1.9 cents in New England.
Over the past six weeks, diesel prices have risen by a total of 66.9 cents per gallon.
The last instance when diesel reached these levels was during the initial week of February.
In contrast, the average national price for a gallon of gasoline decreased by 5.5 cents to settle at $3.813 per gallon.
