Truck drivers should brace for potential slowdowns along a segment of Interstate 10 in Louisiana over the upcoming weekend and the following one. Repair operations on a bridge will be in progress, leading to alterations in traffic flow.
Unforeseen road maintenance will result in a reduction to a single lane for eastbound traffic on Interstate 10. This affected area will stretch from the vicinity of Henderson, Louisiana, right at the base of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, all the way to Lake Pelba (marked as mile marker 122). The roadwork is scheduled to commence on Friday, August 18, starting from 8 p.m. and will persist until Tuesday, August 22, noon.
Once again, on Friday, August 25, there will be a recurrence of the closure starting at 8 p.m. and continuing until noon on Tuesday, August 29. This second closure is essential to grant contractors the necessary time to complete the repair process.
The closures are imperative due to the Department of Transportation and Development’s requirement to replace a malfunctioning finger joint on the bridge, situated near the Butte La Rose exit.
Throughout this period, the road will be accessible to regular traffic, albeit with a maximum width limit of 12 feet for oversized loads passing through the construction area.
Initiating from the onset of the bridge, the lane closures have been strategically positioned to facilitate emergency responses if the need arises. It’s important for drivers to be prepared for substantial delays during the repair undertaking. Motorists are advised to consider taking an alternative route: heading north on Interstate 49 and then east on US 190, directing them towards Baton Rouge.
