Werner Enterprises recently celebrated one of its skilled drivers, Tim Dean, for a remarkable feat: covering an impressive distance of 5 million miles without a single accident. The company recognized this exceptional accomplishment, hailing it as a significant milestone.

Tim Dean now stands alongside Charley Endorf, a retired Werner professional driver, as only the second individual in the company’s history to achieve this prestigious milestone. To honor Tim’s outstanding achievement, Werner organized a special event at its headquarters in Omaha. The ceremony was attended by Tim’s family and fellow associates from Werner.

Accumulating 5 million miles without any accidents is a truly exceptional accomplishment. On average, a professional truck driver covers around 2 million miles throughout their career, as reported by the American Trucking Associations. Putting this achievement in perspective, driving 5 million miles without an accident is equivalent to circumnavigating the globe over 200 times, as stated by Werner.

“Today, we have the pleasure of showcasing what greatness looks like in the daily work of the American professional driver. It’s the accomplishment of waking up every day, working hard and delivering goods that matter, both safely and on time, to those who have entrusted us to do so,” said Werner’s Chairman, President and CEO, Derek Leathers. “We commend Tim for his contributions to Werner and the industry as a whole and are incredibly proud of him for his unwavering commitment to safety over the last 35 years. We look forward to Tim’s continued success on the road as a professional driver, one safe mile at a time.”

Since joining Werner Enterprises in 1988, Tim Dean’s journey has been adorned with numerous achievements. His contributions have not gone unnoticed within the company. Over his tenure, he has garnered a series of accolades. In the years 2009-2010, he proudly served as an ATA America’s Road Team Captain. His commitment extended further as he assumed the role of a Werner Road Team Captain and mentor starting in 2005.

Tim Dean’s participation in the Nebraska Truck Driving Championships for a remarkable 22 years showcases his dedication. During this period, he triumphed in his category on nine occasions, an impressive feat. The years 2012 and 2018 marked the zenith of his success, as he clinched the Grand Champion title. The year 2019 brought him additional recognition, as he was bestowed with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance IDEA (International Driver Excellence Award). His achievements culminated in being named the Nebraska Trucking Association’s Driver of the Year in the same year.

As of August 2023, Werner Enterprises proudly boasts a total of 2,175 professional drivers who have demonstrated their commitment to safety by amassing one million or more accident-free miles. Among these accomplished drivers, 639 continue to actively serve within the Werner fleet, contributing to the company’s culture of safety and excellence.
