The Georgia Department of Transportation is preparing to address a significant pothole issue on Interstate 75.
Motorists and truckers have expressed safety concerns due to the deteriorated road condition on both the northbound and southbound sides of Interstate 75 between the Sardis Church Road exit and exit 149.
In February, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) initiated repairs on the southbound side of the road, aiming to complete the repairs on both sides by the fall. This marks the second occasion in recent years that this particular section of the roadway has necessitated significant pothole repairs.
“I’ve had springs break, and it’s hard on the airbags, and it’s dangerous,” said trucker Phillip Smith to WGXA News. “They just didn’t build the road well enough when they did it [the last time],” Smith. “They should’ve reinforced the foundation better; that way it would have lasted longer.”
“Makes it a little hard to keep it between the lines,” agreed Eric Harvey, a man hauling a trailer full of 11 horses and one Shetland pony.
“It was pretty bumpy. Of course, hauling livestock; makes them a little uncomfortable because of the trailer bouncing around.”
Drivers who have incurred damages as a result of road conditions can seek compensation by reaching out to the GDOT district engineer for further inquiries.
